Our Boarding Philosophy

Stalling versus Pasturing
We are horse lovers and always have the best interest of the horse(s) in mind. We believe in general that horses should be boarded in paddock/pasture areas when possible. This makes for a happier, more emotionally stable steed. There are times however when this does not work. Such as horses in training and some show horses. For example, if a padded Tennessee Walking Horse is boarded, he/she must be stalled. Otherwise, he could really harm himself unsupervised in a pasture. While all of our pastures have stalls, we recommend leaving your horse turned out unless there is a specific reason not to.
FEES:Pasture/Paddock Boarding
Basic Bed & Breakfast:
$125 per month or $225 per pasture. (Accommodates two horses.)  Includes twice daily pellet feeding and hay during the winter months. Perfect for broodmares. Does NOT include use of the facilities.
Bread, Breakfast, & Beyond: $175 per month.

Release of Liability
All boarders and their guests are required to sign a “Release of Liability”. Even if your guest does not plan to ride, there are inherent risks associated with equine activities. This agreement is mandatory.

Health Requirements

Negative Coggins & Clean bill of health from vet within the past 6 months before horse is allowed on premises.
Up to date inoculations (EEE. Rhinopneumontis, Flu, tetanus and west nile must be administered twice a year in our area for safety.) Horse should be inoculated annually with a rabies shot. It is your responsibility to provide current paperwork regarding such.
We recommend worming every 2 months. This is the schedule our herd is on and is best for this area. Horses hooves must be maintained.

Hurricane Refuge

In the event of a Hurricane, Camelot will open its pastures to temporary boarders.  This service is for mares, geldings, and foals.  We are not able to accept stallions at this time.  We are located about 20 miles North of I-10 so are well out of the way of storm surge although we are certainly susceptible to the winds and rain of a Gulf Hurricane.  Our horses are typically turned out which we believe is safer.  All pastures do have sheds in lieu of shelter.  Our fee is the same as for mare care, $6.00 per day including two daily feedings and hay during the duration of your horse's stay. A current coggins is required and horse should be up to date on his/ her vaccinations.  Please call or email for availability in the unfortunate event that you need to evacuate your horse(s).

As sort of a storm guide, we received barely any effects from Hurricane Katrina but we did receive a lot of wind and rain from Rita, with very minimal damage.  Most importantly, no injuries to our horses.  But as with any area directly hit by such strong storms, we cannot guarantee your horse's safety.

HORSE LEASING
We offer limited leasing on our horses.  All horses are registered Tennessee Walkers and are typically young and in excellent condition.  Very different from your typical lease horse.   They are not allowed to leave the property although when we take day trips away, you will be invited to come along.  Our lease includes full access to the arena, trails, wash stall, and round pen.  Typically, our sale horses are leased on a monthly basis but if they sell while you are leasing, you will be placed on another horse. We currently do not lease to minors or novices.  You must at least be an intermediate rider and are responsible for keeping your leased horse properly groomed.  You may use your own tack or can lease or buy tack from us.  We are an Abeta Distributor.  Fee is $150 per month and includes one riding lesson, on how to ride a gaited horse properly.

Board your horse at Camelot Wilderness Ranch for only $175 per month per horse. Only minutes away from Lafayette and Opelousas, our fee  includes two daily feedings, a stall and pasture. Enjoy riding your horse on 120 acres including 40 acres of serene wilderness and trails where you might see bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, rabbits, deer, and many different types of birds.  Our boarders are also welcome to visit and play with our cuddly foals too! This fee also includes use of the arena, round pen, washing facilities and tack storage area. Hang out in the rustic Camelot Club House to take a breather while your horse is tied at the hitching post. Pack a picnic lunch for the day and find a nice cozy spot in the woodlands if you love the sounds of nature. Sunday morning bring a special enchantment as chapel bells peale through the air.  Enjoy fishing our bream pond with your family at no extra charge and cook them right up in our club house. During the spring, if you would love the experience of catching your own organic crawfish in our back woods crawfish pond, we can arrange that at market prices. Pitch a tent on our grounds and  experience a camping trip with your horse for only $10.00 per nite while you sit around your campfire and under the stars. Boarders also receive a 50% discount on any of our training clinics.    Call today and really begin to enjoy your horse.
